Navigating the Building Overview

The building overview is your starting point for every building you manage. It shows the state of your building model at a glance: what is still in draft, what went live in the last update, and which building services are connected. Nothing you edit reaches your employees until you publish, so this page is where you check your work before it goes live.

Finding your way around

Navigation in the Buildings tab runs through the breadcrumb at the top of the page, just below the main menu. It always shows where you are, starting at Buildings and adding a step for every level you open, first the building and then the page you are on inside it.

Every step is clickable, so Buildings takes you back to the full list. The arrows are the quicker route: the one next to the building name switches you to another building, and the one next to a building service jumps you straight to Sensors, Kiosks, Controls, or App links without going back to the overview first.

Building model

The building model is your building's spatial layout: floors, areas, desks, and meeting rooms. The top of the page splits that layout into two tiles. The left tile is your work in progress. The right tile is what your employees see right now.

Draft building

Every change you save in the building editor lands in the draft. There is no separate "start editing" step, and nothing in a draft is visible to employees.

The Draft building tile sums up that draft for you:

  • When it was last changed, and who changed it

  • How many blocking issues you need to solve before you can publish

  • How many changes the draft holds

Two buttons sit below the summary. Continue editing takes you to the building edit page. Review & publish opens the review panel, where the detail lives.

💡When everything is published, the tile reads The building model is up to date and both counters sit at zero. Both buttons stay available, so you can jump back into the editor or open the review panel at any time.

Building update published

The Building update published tile is your record of the last release, whether or not you have a draft open. It names the version, the date it went live, and the admin who published it.

Below that, under Items affected by this update, you see what that release touched. Publishing can leave building services without a location, so a row here might read 2 sensors were uncommissioned. Click a row to see the details behind it and follow up. When the update touched nothing, the tile simply reads No impact from this update.

Version history

View version history opens the full record of your building. It lists every version you have published, newest first, with the date and the admin who published it, and your current draft at the top. From there you can inspect what went into any version, and clear a draft that has gone the wrong way with Discard all edits. Read Using the Building Version History for the walkthrough.

Review & publish

The Review & publish panel is where your draft becomes transparent. It opens over the overview page and answers three questions before you commit: what changed, what is holding you back, and who it affects. The panel always waits for your latest edit to save first, so what you review is what you publish. It has four tabs.

Overview

The Overview tab is the summary. Three cards tell you whether you can publish, what publishing will touch, and how many changes are waiting. Each card links through to its own tab.

Issues

The Issues tab lists what blocks your publish. Issues are grouped by problem and by what they affect, so ten desks without an outline show up as one row instead of ten. Click a row and Mapiq takes you to the spot where you fix it, either the side panel or the floorplan editor. Issues are the only thing that can block a publish.

Impact

The Impact tab shows who and what your publish will affect. Mapiq checks your draft against reservations, sensors, kiosks, controls, and app links. Each row states the effect in plain words, such as a reservation that will be cancelled because its booked location has been removed.

⚠️ Impact never blocks a publish. It tells you the cost, and the choice stays yours.

Changes

The Changes tab is the full list of what is about to go live. Changes are grouped per floor, with building-level changes first, and each group shows the people who edited that floor since the last publish. Within a group, changes are bundled per type, so you read "Added, 2 Areas" instead of two separate lines. Review floor takes you into the floorplan for that floor.

Building services

Building services are the connected services that bring your building to life. They sit below the building model and are set up per building.

Note: Building services depend on an active integration. A tile only appears once the matching service is enabled for your building. Interested in one you do not see? Contact your Mapiq representative to discuss the options.

Sensors

Sensors puts your whole sensor network in one place. Commission sensors to a location, keep an eye on their status, and view a live map of what each sensor registers. It gives you a real-time read of how your building is used.

Kiosks

Kiosks manages the interactive panels in your office. Employees use them to check live meeting room availability on the spot, and to find their way around. Availability comes from sensor data, so a room only shows up when it is labelled as a meeting room and has sensors in place. You decide what each panel shows and pair it to the physical device.

Controls

Controls connects Mapiq to your building systems, so light and temperature are a tap away in the app. It needs an active link with your Building Management System.

App links

App links creates shortcuts into Mapiq, with QR codes to match. They work well on signage, desks, and meeting room doors. You link to an area or a meeting room, and you pick what the link opens:

  • Controls takes the employee straight to the controls section of that area or meeting room, so they can adjust light or temperature right away

  • Any available feature opens the details window for that area or meeting room, and the employee takes it from there

Behind the scenes

  • Nothing is live until you publish — Every save lands in the draft. Your employees keep seeing the last published version until you publish the new one.

  • Only issues can block you — The publish button stays off while blocking issues remain, and the tooltip names how many. Impact is advisory and never stops a publish.

  • Impact counts groups, not items — The number next to the Impact tab is the number of effects listed, not the number of things affected. One row can hold dozens of reservations.

  • A service that cannot be checked says so — The five impact areas are checked on their own. If one fails, you get a warning row naming it instead of a silent pass.

  • Building services are paid and need setup — Each one is a paid service and may need an integration before its tile appears.

  • Editing needs the right rights — You need Building Admin rights or higher to change and publish a building.

  • Publishing cannot be rolled back — You can restore or discard edits inside the current draft, but a published version is final. Contact us if you need one reverted.

  • Discarding lives here, restoring lives in the editor — Discard all edits sits in the version history on this page, while stepping back to an earlier point in your draft happens in Edit history inside the building model.
