The building model is where your office truly takes shape. Once you open the editor, you're in full control. Shaping how spaces are organized, how rooms are managed, and how your setup reaches employees. It's a layered environment, built around the idea that every change you make is yours to review before it goes live. This article helps you navigate the building model with confidence.
Finding your way around
Open the Buildings tab, select your building, and click Continue editing to get here. The menu on the left holds four places: Overview, Workspaces, Meeting rooms, and Version history. Above them, the header shows the building name, its draft state, how many blocking issues and changes the draft holds, and the Review & publish button.
Overview
The Overview tab is your first stop. A clean, floor-by-floor snapshot of your entire building. At a glance, you see the building address, opening days, workspace and meeting room counts, and a map tile per floor. But it's more than just a summary. From here you can add floors and edit your building's core settings (name, time zone, location). Click any floor to get quick actions: adjust the floor number, jump into the Map Editor, or delete it. Clicking the map tile takes you straight there too.
Workspaces
The Workspaces tab is all about the areas where your people actually work. Every workspace represents a physical space, a desk zone, an open area, a dedicated team spot and this tab is where you define and manage them. Capacity is central here: you control how many people can use each area, with that data flowing directly into booking rules and reporting. Set the right booking policy per workspace (Ad hoc usage, Desk booking, or Area booking), jump straight to the map for any floor, and add new workspaces or floors as your office evolves.
Meeting rooms
The Meeting rooms tab gives you full control over every (bookable) room in your building. See room names, capacities, and policies at a glance and click any room to fine-tune it: update the name, capacity, room policy, calendar link, photo, and equipment suitability. A map icon on each room takes you straight to the right floor in the Map Editor.
Need to update multiple rooms at once? Use the Import button to make bulk changes without going room by room. You can also add floors directly from here.
Version history
Version history is the last item in the menu, and it is your safety net. It keeps a record of every edit session in your draft and every version you have published, so you can see who changed what and when. From here you can also step back: discard the draft entirely, or restore it to a specific point and keep everything before it. Read Using the Building Version History for the full walkthrough.
Review & publish
Once you start making changes, the Review & publish flow is always within reach in the header. It checks your building setup for problems as you go, so you are never publishing blind. Open it and you get four tabs: what is blocking you, what publishing will affect, and everything that is about to go live. Batch your updates, review with confidence, and publish when everything looks right. Read Reviewing & Publishing Your Building(s) for the full walkthrough.
đĄBuilding services such as sensors, kiosks, controls, and app links act on your published building, not on your draft, so you manage them one step up on the building overview page. Read Navigating the Building Overview to find them.
Behind the scenes
Nothing is live until you publish â Every save lands in the draft. Your employees keep seeing the last published version until you publish the new one.
Batch your changes â You can make many changes in one session before publishing. This keeps your setup consistent and avoids partial updates going live.
Capacity adds up from below â Building capacity is the sum of the capacities set at floor, area, and desk level, and it feeds booking rules and Insights reports. You can only override it by hand when nothing lower in the hierarchy has a capacity.
Editing needs the right rights â You need Building Admin rights or higher to make changes in the building model.
Calendar links are set per room â Each room has its own Microsoft or Google calendar link, and it must be active before bookings sync with your calendar system.
Your team shares one draft â A draft collects everyone's edits, so discarding or restoring can remove work made by other admins.
