Offices grow, and your building model grows with them. Adding a floor in the building model is the first step in getting a new level ready for your employees, whether you are opening a whole new wing or filling in a level that was never set up. This article shows you how to add a floor and how to remove one you no longer need.
Applies to
Admin roles: Subscription Owner, Subscription Admin, and Building Admin for the buildings in their scope
đĄWe recommend building your skeleton first: add all your floors, then draw the maps. It keeps the structure clear and saves you jumping back and forth.
Adding a Floor
Every floor you add lands in the building's draft, so nothing reaches your employees until you publish.
Go to the
Buildingstab and select the building you want to work on.On the building overview, click
Continue editingto open the building model. In the menu on the left, open
Overview.Click
Add floorin the top right of the building card.A side panel opens. In
Floor number, enter the number for the new floor. Mapiq suggests the next one in line, and you can change it to whatever fits your building. In
Capacity, enter how many people the floor holds.Click
Save changes. The new floor appears in the list with its capacity shown as desks.
â ď¸ A floor needs to be created for Workspaces or Meeting rooms to be added!
đĄA floor does not need a map to exist. A unique floor number is enough to get it into your model, and you can draw the map later from Create a map in the same panel.
You can also start with the map instead, but we recommend setting your skeleton first. Once a map is drawn, the desks on it decide the capacity and if a manual number was entered, it is overruled.
Deleting a Floor
Removing a floor takes everything on it with you, so it is worth a second look before you confirm.
Go to the
Buildingstab and select the building you want to work on.On the building overview, click
Continue editingto open the building model. In the menu on the left, open
Overview.Click the floor you want to remove. The same side panel opens.
Click
Delete floor.Read the confirmation window. It tells you the floor and everything inside it will be deleted.
Click
Yes, deleteto confirm, orNo, cancelto keep the floor.
đ¨ Deleting a floor removes every area, desk, meeting room, and facility on it. The deletion sits in your draft, so you can still step back through Version history before you publish. Once you publish, it is final.
Behind the scenes
Nothing is live until you publish â Added and deleted floors sit in your draft. Employees keep seeing the last published version until you publish the new one.
Maps decide capacity in the end â A capacity you type in by hand counts only while the floor has no map. As soon as desks are drawn, the map's desk count takes over.
Floor numbers are yours to choose â Mapiq suggests the next number, but you can set any number that matches your building, including a ground floor of 0.
Deleting cascades â Removing a floor removes everything on it, and publishing that deletion can cancel reservations on those spaces. The
Impacttab inReview & publishtells you what will be affected before you commit. You can step back before publishing â
Version historylets you discard the draft or restore it to a point before the change. Read Using the Building Version History for the full walkthrough.
