Workspaces are where your people actually work: a desk zone, an open area, a dedicated team spot. Adding them through the building model is the quickest way to get your structure in place, because a name is all you need to create one. This article shows you how to add a workspace and how to remove one you no longer need.
Applies to
Admin roles: Subscription Owner, Subscription Admin, and Building Admin for the buildings in their scope
💡 Note: A workspace always sits on a floor, so you need at least one floor before you can add one. Read Adding Floors through the Building Model if your building has none yet.
Workspace and area mean the same thing in the building model. The list calls them workspaces, and the panel and the map editor call them areas.
Adding a Workspace
Everything you add lands in the building's draft, so nothing reaches your employees until you publish.
Go to the
Buildingstab and select the building you want to work on.On the building overview, click
Continue editingto open the building model. In the menu on the left, open
Workspaces.Find the floor you want to add to and click
Add areaon that row.A side panel opens. Enter a name in the field at the top.
Click
Add areaat the bottom of the panel. A confirmation appears and the workspace shows up under its floor. The panel stays open and empty, so you can add the next workspace straight away. Click the cross in the top right when you are done.

A name is enough to create a workspace. Capacity, policy, and the rest can wait until you know more.

Accessibility friendly,Adjustable desk,Charging cablesor**Cubicle**.To give every desk island in the area the same set, turn on
Apply to all desks in this area. Leave it off when islands differ, and select each one separately.
💡Amenities live on the desk island, not on the single desk, so every desk in an island shares the same set. Employees can filter on them when they book, which is what makes the effort worth it.
⚠️ Note: A workspace can exist without a map, but it needs an outline before you can publish. The panel flags this and offers Go to map editor, where you draw the outline and place desk islands inside it. Read Adding Areas and Adding Desks for those steps. Desk amenities are set in the map editor too.
Deleting a Workspace
Removing a workspace takes everything inside it with you, so it is worth a second look before you confirm.
Go to the
Buildingstab and select the building you want to work on.On the building overview, click
Continue editingto open the building model. In the menu on the left, open
Workspaces.Click the workspace you want to remove. The side panel opens.
Scroll down and click
Delete area.Read the confirmation window. It tells you the area and everything inside it will be deleted.
Click
Yes, deleteto confirm, orNo, cancelto keep the workspace.
🚨Deleting a workspace removes the desks and settings inside it. The deletion sits in your draft, so you can still step back through Version history before you publish. Once you publish, it is final
Behind the scenes
Nothing is live until you publish — Added and deleted workspaces sit in your draft. Employees keep seeing the last published version until you publish the new one.
Workspaces belong to a floor — Every workspace sits under one floor, so deleting that floor removes its workspaces too.
An outline is required to publish — A workspace without an outline is a blocking issue. Draw it in the map editor before you publish.
Desks decide capacity in the end — A capacity you type in by hand counts only until desks are drawn inside the outline. After that, the map decides.
Amenities belong to the desk island — You assign amenities to a desk island, not to a single desk, so every desk in that island carries the same set.
Apply to all desks in this areacopies your selection to every island in the area at once.Closing the panel warns you — If you close the panel with unsaved input, Mapiq asks whether to discard your changes or keep editing.
Deleting cascades — Removing a workspace removes the desks and settings inside it, and publishing that deletion can cancel reservations on those spaces. The
Impacttab inReview & publishtells you what will be affected before you commit. You can step back before publishing —
Version historylets you discard the draft or restore it to a point before the change. Read Using the Building Version History for the full walkthrough.
