Importing a building

Importing is the fastest way to bring a fully configured building into Mapiq. During implementation, Mapiq prepares a digital twin of your office as a single ZIP file, and the import turns it into a working building in one go. You check what is inside before anything is added, and the building stays private until you publish it. Here's how to get started.

Applies to

  • Admin roles: Subscription Owner, Subscription Admin, and Building Admin

Importing your Building

Once your building file is ready, follow these steps to import it:

  1. Go to the Buildings tab.

  2. Click Import building in the top right corner.

  3. Select the ZIP file and click Open.

  4. Mapiq uploads and processes the file. The icon next to your profile shows the progress, from Uploading building to Processing building.

  5. When it reads Building import ready, click the icon and click Review next to your building.

  6. Check the summary of capacity, floors, areas, meeting rooms, and facilities, then click Import.

  7. When Import completed appears, click Open building to go to the building overview, or Close to stay on the list.

⚠️ You can cancel your import after selecting Building import ready and clicking the trash can icon.

⚠️ ZIP file:

  • The imported ZIP file must include all necessary files (e.g., JSON file and related images) with a maximum size of 28.5MB.

  • Only 1 JSON file is allowed per ZIP.

  • Images must be in JPEG, JPG, or PNG format, and their dimensions should be between 1000 x 1000px and 10000 x 10000px.

  • The maximum image file size is 25MB.

⚠️ JSON file:

  • Display names (e.g., building, floor, area names) must be at most 32 characters.

  • Please share a valid time zone.

  • Meeting room email addresses need to be in the correct format.

  • The JSON file can’t be bigger than 2MB.

Common Errors & Resolutions

Despite careful preparations, errors may still occur during the import. In some cases, you can resolve these issues yourself, while other situations may require the assistance of our Support Team.

Below are some common errors and recommended actions:

Error

Recommended Action

Wrong file types

Please ensure the ZIP file contains only one .json file and images are in JPEG, JPG, or PNG formats.

Incorrect JSON scheme structure

Contact Mapiq Support with the error message to correct the JSON file.

Broken JSON scheme

Reach out to Mapiq Support with the error message and the associated ZIP file. Images must be in JPEG, JPG, or PNG format, and their dimensions should be between 1000 x 1000px and 10000 x 10000px. And the maximum image file size cannot exceed 25MB.

Wrong image dimensions or file size

Provide Mapiq with an appropriate image meeting the required dimensions and file size.

Generic import message

Please try importing again later, and if the problem continues, please get in touch with Mapiq Support with the ZIP file and information on the attempt steps.

Timeout error

Retry the import later, and if it keeps failing, contact Mapiq Support with the building's details.

Behind the scenes

  • Imports run through Mapiq — Mapiq prepares your building file during implementation. Some import errors need our Support Team to correct the file before you can try again.

  • One ZIP, one JSON — Each ZIP file can hold one JSON file and can be at most 28.5MB. The JSON itself can be at most 2MB.

  • Images have hard limits — Images must be JPEG, JPG, or PNG, between 1000 x 1000px and 10000 x 10000px, and no larger than 25MB.

  • Names are capped at 32 characters — Building, floor, and area names must stay within 32 characters for the import to go through.

  • You review before anything is added — The building only joins your list once you click Import in the review window.

  • Nothing is live until you publish — An imported building lands as a draft. Your employees cannot see it until you publish it.

  • Building services wait for the publish — Sensors, kiosks, controls, and app links unlock once the building is published.
