Elsys Sensors & Their Specifications
Updated over a week ago

Integrated seamlessly with Mapiq, Elsys sensors provide real-time occupancy data and play a pivotal role in enhancing workplace efficiency and user experience. In this article, we’ll delve into the specifications, installation preparations, and benefits of Elsys sensors, offering a comprehensive understanding of their capabilities and applications.

Sensor Options

EMS Desk Sensor

The EMS Desk sensor is slightly larger than an AA battery and ideal for mounting under desks. It is designed to detect occupancy regardless of the table or position of the person. The EMS Desk Sensors are perfect for measuring the busiest desks by floor and area, checking live desk availability, and providing predictions on desk occupancy in general.

ERS Eye Room Sensor

The ERS Eye sensor can be mounted above any area on the wall or ceiling. Occupancy is measured with a Movement + IR sensor, which provides high accuracy, even in a room with glass walls. The ERS Eye Room Sensors are there to help you predict meeting room occupancy trends and room-type occupancy during the workweek and ad-hoc meeting room availability, to name a few.

Network & Installation Preparations

Before diving into the installation, it’s essential to ensure your network is primed for the gateways:

  • Whitelist the gateway MAC addresses.

  • Allow outbound LoRaWAN communication for gateway purposes using:

    • Port 443 (HTTPS TCP) to connect to Mapiq’s private Loriot LoRaWAN network server. It’s recommended to use the domain name https://mapiq.loriot.io as the IP address might change over time.

    • Ports 80, 443, 5789, and 5788 for our gateway maintenance platform - ds.devicehq.com.

Infrastructure Services

  • DHCP Services: UDP port 67

  • DNS Services: UDP/TCP port 53

  • Time Services: UDP port 123 to time.nist.gov.*

*Gateways do not have an internal clock, so it’s crucial that they can reach a time server to synchronize with the correct time. Otherwise, all SSL/TLS handshakes will fail, and a secure connection to the Loriat LoRa portal cannot be established. The default time server that is configured in the gateways is time.nist.gov. If you prefer another time server, please let us know before installation.

Power Requirements

Elsys sensors are entirely wireless and instead powered by batteries. The battery life is up to 10 years, meaning lower maintenance costs.

  • Multitech Gateways: Use the provided power cable for a 230V power socket or opt for PoE (IEEE 802.3at) with CAT5 or higher cables.

  • Elsys ERS Eye Room Sensor: Powered by two EVE ER14505 3.6V AA Lithium Batteries.

  • Elsys EMS Desk Sensor: Powered by one EVE ER14505 3.6V AA Lithium Battery.

Sensor Placement Recommendations

The Elsys network comprises three primary elements with a recommended location placement:

  1. Multitech LoRaWAN Gateway: Facilitates communication between the sensors and the Mapiq cloud. It’s PoW-powered and connects via Ethernet. The number of required gateways is contingent on the building’s size and structure. These gateways, which are PoE-powered, should be placed on walls throughout the building.

  2. ERS Eye Sensor: Ideal for wall or ceiling mounts, this sensor uses Movement + IR technology to detect occupancy in closed rooms, even those with glass walls.

  3. EMS Desk Sensor: Designed for under-desk mounting, this sensor detects desk occupancy regardless of table type or person’s position.

Note: Currently, open areas are not supported.
