Adding Areas
Updated over a week ago

Mapiq allows you to create your building on a digital platform, adding areas to your map. In this article, we'll go through exactly how to add areas in different ways and how to remove them.

Adding areas from the Building Overview

  1. Select the building created.

  2. In the menu on the left, select "Desks."

  3. Press "+ Add area" below the newly added floors.

  4. Give the area a clear name.

  5. Set a safe capacity.

  6. By clicking on the "+" button, you will automatically be taken to the map editor to draw this new area.

  7. Add more areas by repeating the steps above.

πŸ’‘ We frequently see that areas are named after specific departments, mainly because this is very descriptive and helps your users orientate properly in your building.

Adding areas from the Map Editor

  1. Click "Add area" to create a new area on the map. If you want to draw in an area for an existing area, select this area from the left-side menu under Areas.

  2. After clicking on "Add area" or selecting the desired area under Areas, a side window pops up on the right side of the map editor where you can set the area properties. The following properties can be configured:

    1. The name of the area.

    2. The capacity of the area.

    3. The rendering method is either "Enclosed" or "Open," depending on the area type.

    4. Pick your workspace policy to indicate if and how this area can be booked: Area booking, Desk booking or Ad hoc usage.*

  3. Review your work by pressing "Preview" in the top right corner to see what it would look like for your colleagues.

  4. Finalize your work by pressing "Done" in the top right corner.

  5. Your work has now been saved but has yet to be published. You can do that from the other menu.

* The capacity set under Capacity will automatically be overwritten if desk are added to the area, regardless of the workspace policy selected!

If you swap from Area booking to Desk booking then the capacity remains the same, but the underlying desks become bookable.

Please refer to our Workspace Policy overview article for an explanation of these different workspace policies.

Removing areas

Making adjustments within your building is very easy, and the same goes for removing areas already added to the map.

Follow these steps to remove areas:

  1. Navigate to the area you want to delete.

  2. Select the area and press "Delete area" at the bottom of the menu.

  3. Confirm the deletion in the pop-up that appears.
