Creating an App link

As an admin, you decide how quickly your employees get from a physical space into Mapiq. App links make that one scan away. You can generate a batch of blank links to print ahead of time, create links that are connected to your rooms, workspaces, and facilities straight away, or set up a single check-in link for the whole building. Whatever fits your rollout, it all starts from the App links page of your building.

Applies to

  • Admin roles: Subscription Owner, Subscription Admin, and Building Admin for the building you are working in.

  • Add-ons: No add-on is needed to create App links. The Controls intent only works for locations that have controllable equipment.

Not sure which approach fits? Start with blank links when the QR codes need to go to the printer before you know where each one ends up. Choose commissioning at once when your locations are ready and you want everything connected in one go.

Creating Blank App Links

Generate a batch of App links that aren't connected to a location yet, so you can print the QR codes first and connect them later.

  1. Go to the Buildings tab and select the building you want to create App links for.

  2. Select App links from the dropdown next to the building name in the breadcrumb.

  3. Click Add.

  4. Select Generate app links and commission them individually later.

  5. Enter the number of links you need in the Number field.

  6. Click Generate. The button shows the number of links, for example Generate 3.

  7. A confirmation appears, and the new links show up in the list as Uncommissioned with the intent Any.

Creating and Commissioning App Links

Create App links and connect each one to a location in a single flow.

  1. Go to the Buildings tab and select the building you want to create App links for.

  2. Select App links from the dropdown next to the building name in the breadcrumb.

  3. Click Add.

  4. Select Generate & commission app links at once.

  5. Under Which feature should be highlighted when using the app link?, choose Controls or Any available feature on the location.

  6. Under Which type of locations need to be commissioned?, select Workspaces, Rooms, Facilities, or a combination.

  7. Click Next.

  8. Select the locations you want a link for. Select All for the whole building, select a floor to include every location on it, or expand a floor and select individual locations.

  9. Check the count under Selected locations. If Mapiq shows Some of the selected locations don't seem to support the intended controls feature, adjust your selection or go Back to pick another intent.

  10. Click Commission. The button shows the number of links, for example Commission 3 links.

  11. A confirmation appears, and the new links show up in the list with their location, floor, and type.

Creating a Building Check-in App Link

Create one App link that checks your employees in at the building with a single scan.

  1. Go to the Buildings tab and select the building you want to create the check-in link for.

  2. Select App links from the dropdown next to the building name in the breadcrumb.

  3. Click Add.

  4. Select Generate & commission app links at once.

  5. Under Which feature should be highlighted when using the app link?, choose Check in at the building.

  6. Click Next.

  7. Review the summary. It shows the building name and explains that the link checks someone in and plans an office day if they have none today.

  8. Click Commission 1 link.

  9. A confirmation appears, and the link shows up in the list with the type Building and the intent Check in.

💡 Note: A building can have one check-in link. If it already has one, Mapiq shows This building already has a check-in link and you can't commission another. One code covers the whole building, so you can print it as often as you need.

Commissioning a Blank App Link

Connect an uncommissioned App link to a location, so a scan opens the right space.

  1. Go to the Buildings tab, select the building, and open App links from the dropdown in the breadcrumb.

  2. Click an App link with the status Uncommissioned. The App link panel opens.

  3. Optional: under Feature intent, choose Any available features, Controls, or Check in at the building.

  4. Next to Location, click + (Commission this link to a location).

  5. In the Locations window, pick the floor at the top left.

  6. Select the location in the list or on the floor plan.

  7. Click Confirm.

  8. Click Save & Publish.

  9. A confirmation appears, and the link shows its location, floor, and type in the list.

Behind the scenes

  • New links start as Uncommissioned — Blank links have no location and the intent Any until you commission them.

  • One check-in link per building — The check-in flow covers the whole building with a single link, so Mapiq blocks a second one.

  • Controls aren't available everywhere — Mapiq warns you when a selected location doesn't seem to support controls, so you can adjust your selection before you commission.

  • Selections follow the location types — The location picker only lists the types you selected in the first step, such as rooms or facilities.

  • Copy or download straight from the list — Use the icons in the URL and QR columns to copy a link or download its QR code as an SVG file, without opening the link.

  • Archived links stop working — Select one or more links and click Archive to retire them. Their QR codes and URLs no longer work, so remove them from your office first. You can reuse an archived link later by reactivating it.
