Troubleshooting QR-codes

When a QR code doesn't do what it should, Mapiq tells the person who scanned it what went wrong. Every dead end has its own message, so you can trace the cause quickly. This article walks you through each message, what causes it, and how you fix it from Mapiq.

When a check-in scan can't complete

These messages appear on your employee's phone after scanning a check-in QR code.

What your employee sees

Why it happens

How you fix it

This code isn't valid

The App link doesn't point at a building.

Open the link in App links and set its Feature intent to Check in at the building. The building is filled in as the location automatically.

Building not found

The building doesn't exist, or the employee's location profile doesn't allow them to book at that location. No check-in is recorded.

As a Building Admin or Subscription Admin, check that the building exists and whether the employee's location profile gives access to it. If the profile blocks that location on purpose, the message is expected and the employee can't check in there.

Check-in isn't available

Check-in isn't switched on for your organisation.

Enable a form of check-in, such as manual check-in, in Settings. The QR code works as soon as check-in is on, so you don't need to reprint it.

We couldn't check you in

The check-in request itself failed.

Ask the employee to scan again. If it keeps happening, contact our support team.

App version not compatible

The employee's Mapiq app is older than check-in links.

The screen shows a button to the app store. Ask the employee to update the app and scan again.

Want to know what your employees see when a scan does work? Share Checking in to your building with a QR-code with them. It explains every outcome of a check-in scan, from a planned office day to a booked workspace.

Other things to check

Not every issue shows a message on the phone. These are worth a look when a QR code seems to do nothing useful.

The link is archived

An archived link stops working right away. Turn on the Archived filter on the Id column to find it, then reactivate it. See Reactivating an App link.

The intent doesn't fit the location

If the App link panel shows The selected feature intent is not supported on this location, a scan can't open that feature. Pick another intent or location. See Editing an App link.

Creating a check-in link fails

If Failed to create appears when you create a check-in link, contact our support team. They can look into what's blocking it for your building.

The link isn't commissioned yet

An Uncommissioned link has no location yet. Connect it to a location before you put the QR code up. See Creating an App link.

Behind the scenes

  • Fixes don't need a reprint — A QR code only carries a short code. What it opens is set in Mapiq, so every fix above works with the QR code you already printed.

  • No access means no check-in — When an employee's location profile doesn't give access to the building, the scan stops before it reaches the check-in service. Nothing is recorded for that scan.

  • Check-in comes before the office day — When the check-in works but the office day can't be planned, the employee stays checked in and sees a message about it.

  • One check-in code per building — A building has one check-in link. A second check-in code for the same building can't be created.

  • Scans aren't tracked per code — Check-in data records the building, not which QR code was scanned. You can't yet see which entrance gets used most.

  • Rescanning runs the same flow — An employee who scans again while already checked in goes through the same check-in. There's no separate "already checked in" message.
